St Austin’s & St Gregory’s food parcel service REALLY need:
- Tinned Spaghetti, Tinned Meats and Tinned Fish.
- They also need ladies sanitary products and EGG BOXES – they have had a large donation of eggs but they are in large trays and need to be divided up.
Many of their beneficiaries are homeless with no means to cook.
Also they could use two more VOLUNTEERS to bag up parcels. Please call John Finnegan on 07443 890 082 if you can help. They have appropriate PPE.
They are open Monday, Thursday and Friday 9.30AM to 1PM for drop offs.
Address: 38 Charlotte Place, Margate (look for the green door set back a little from the road.)
If you can’t drop off, please call John Finnegan on 07443 890 082 and he will arrange a pick up.
From a user’s perspective:
They are open to anyone who turns up to ask for help. No ID required or questions asked.
They are also providing parcels for frontline workers (NHS, Fire, Police etc) but they will need ID.
Information on local food banks
Having spoken to someone at Thanet Children’s Centres, we’ve added some notes to the below. Please read the following information about using food banks.
To use a food bank, you have to meet certain criteria. They are extremely busy right now, and these resources can only go to those who truly need them. Some people have been turning up because the supermarkets are low on stock: this is not classed as a valid reason.
Firstly, you have to have valid ID. If you have children, they also need valid ID (birth certificates, passports, red books etc). You will also be asked to provide a “proof of need”. This includes the following: a benefit statement, a bank statement or view of online banking, proof of being on universal credit. If you have had an emergency such as a car breaking down which has crippled your finances, you will be asked to provide a receipt for these costs. If you have been the victim of a crime, e.g. having your purse stolen, you will be asked to provide a crime reference number.
If you meet the criteria, you will be allowed one 1 food parcel in 7 days, up to a maximum of 6 in one year. Please always call ahead before going. If you are self-isolating, please do not go to a food bank.
If you able, please do consider giving to the below food banks, as they are running very low at this time.
